Wall of Shame
The following people (otherwise known as thieves, stealers, cheaters, etc.) have gone as far as to take our images, content, ideas and/or other material without consent despite warnings and requests personally from the staff. More about this in FAQ/Why We Care.If you find anyone else using our stuff, please contact us immediately. They might just end up here.
The Offenders
The Website: Anti-Emma Watson, a foreign-language Emma hate site.
What They've Done: They've posted several of our Style Guide images (and what really is the significance of having them on an Anti site, anyway?); with our site name and URL printed on them, no less. I warned them twice back in June, asking them nicely to take them off, but they haven't done squat. Thus, our first Wall of Shamer (like it's something to celebrate)!
The Website: Dress Like Watson
What They've Done: Well, let's see. They stole our concept, subject, quite a few matches and, for shame for shame, some of our exclusive Copycats photos. The Sassy staff and community members have left several warnings in their guestbook (there is no other way to contact them) and they just delete them and haven't taken anything down. So, yeah, here they are!
FAQ/Why We Care
Why do people have to ask permission to create a site about the way one dresses?
When this website made its debut online, it was around 2003 and part of another website (called Always-Emma.org, now closed), and there wasn't anything like it. We had to come up with our ideas (including terms, designs, etc.) from scratch, and I had never once seen a Dress Like (Celebrity) site and not really even any subsections on websites either.
And while I don't claim the idea of a fashion-oriented celeb site, I do wonder if webmasters of such sites (ones that haven't been around long, at least) got their ideas from Sassy. Often these sites are exactly like us; same sections, same titles, same sources, same Sassy-coined terms (such as guides, matches, etc.), everything, just of another person (or sometimes, not even a different person; sometimes people actually rip off the Emma concept as well, see below for more on that), and that I feel isn't honest, original, or fair to us.
However, if a new site opens with the same basic concept as mine, I'm not going to hunt them down and threaten to add them to the Wall of Shame or anything like that unless I feel that it's a near-exact clone of my own site. I actually think it's awesome for other people to do sites like mine in general and I'm always interested to see their spin on it. Everyone who has emailed asking if I approve of a site they're considering making is really nice and understands why I've asked them to email me first, and we're usually quite supportive and even affiliate with and promote those who we do approve of.
What's so bad about an Emma/Hermione site having a fashion section too?
Generally, I won't care that much if the site/staff's aims aren't the same exact as ours; but I feel that by now Sassy has had a part in really piquing people's interest in the Emma-fashion idea. (Most information you see on other websites probably originated here.) Why is it necessary to include a Dress Like Emma type section for your website when there's already an entire site built around such a concept? There are a lot of people involved in this site, working very hard to bring the best for visitors, only to see it being mercilessly ripped off on other sites. Be original and think of something on your own, like we did.
